On the Water: Sailing at Bohicket Marina
Life at Kiawah River is synonymous with life on the water. The community’s commitment to sustainability allows residents to enjoy the Lowcountry’s many tidal rivers, creeks and ponds while offering an up-close experience with the surrounding ecosystems. And what better way to enjoy Mother Nature’s waterways than from a sailboat?
Sailing can be both a relaxing and physically demanding activity that offers a great way to get out on the water and enjoy an exciting experience surrounded by one of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in the world. At Kiawah River, beginner and avid sailors can set sail from the community dock. And just a stone’s throw from Kiawah River is one of our favorite places to set sail in the Lowcountry – Bohicket Marina & Market.
Just minutes from Kiawah River, the Bohicket Marina & Market is a coveted spot for locals and visitors alike, offering dockage, dry storage, boat rentals, a boating club membership program, restaurants, a retail market as well as fishing and sailing charters.
Bohicket Marina has several seasoned sailing guides who run their charters out of the marina, including Captain Jack McConnell of Kiawah Sailing and Captain Chad Stewart of Holy City Sailing. Both captains lead private sailing explorations of the Lowcountry’s Intracoastal waterways and the Atlanta Ocean aboard their sailboats, “Palmetto Tide” and “Golden Handcuffs,” which range from 32-37 feet long.
During these excursions, passengers can partake in the sailing activity or just kick back and relax on the fore deck, enjoying the natural history and beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry.
The Lowcountry is home to an array of wildlife and the best way to learn more about the surrounding ecosystem is to set sail on the open ocean or through the creeks and tidal rivers that weave through the marsh. Excursions offer the perfect opportunity to get an up-close glimpse of dolphins, fish and birds in their natural habitat.
So, dock up and stock up at the Bohicket Marina for a day of sailing fun out on South Carolina’s waters.
