When San Francisco-based architects Howard Backen and Luca Pignata met with John Darby and Carter Redd, they realized this was a project they wanted to be a part of. Even so, nothing could prepare them for what they saw when they first visited the site near Charleston on the Kiawah River. The beauty of the land, the colors, the views of the waterways, and the light breaching through the canopy of live oaks created an atmosphere they had never seen anywhere else before.
Architects dream of designing on a canvas like the Kiawah River site and working with clients like the Beach Company team, who have the reputation and experience to build beautiful and timeless projects. Backen, Gillam & Kroeger is proud to be part of that legacy.
