Three Generations of the Creel Family Working at Kiawah River

At Kiawah River, we’ve always put family and community first, nurturing strong connections among our residents, visitors and staff. In December 2023, our trusted friend and partner Rickey Creel received his 30-year anniversary award with Gulf Stream Construction (GSC), a cornerstone company that has played an instrumental role in making Kiawah River what it is today. Both GSC and Kiawah River are overseen by The Beach Company, a family-owned real estate business. Rickey, who joined Gulf Stream in 1991, has brought his family – sons Jason and Michael, and grandsons Jaden and Mason – into the company, reflecting a legacy of dedication and commitment.

During a recent conversation with Rickey’s son, Jason, we had the opportunity to learn more about his family’s legacy at Gulf Stream Construction…

Jason Creel began working at GSC in 1995 and is currently the general superintendent. His father, Rickey, and brother, Michael, both serve as superintendents as well, while Jason’s and Michael’s sons are heavy equipment operators – all working side by side at Kiawah River.

“It’s a true blessing to work with family,” Jason says. “So many years of experience passed down – Our grandfather, James Creel, started the family trade, giving us four generations of experience and knowledge.”

Jason’s favorite aspect of working at Kiawah River is the community’s unique style of development. His favorite project that he has worked on within the community is The Dunlin Hotel, specifically for its view of the marsh and compelling design structures. The Creel family always strives to perform the highest quality work, and we are so appreciative of their dedication and hard work to the continued development of our community.

“It’s truly a great accomplishment to work with one company for over 30 years. My father always says you will never find a better company to work for,” says Jason. “Here soon, I’m looking forward to receiving my 30 years alongside my father and I couldn’t be more thankful.”

We are especially grateful to Gulf Stream Construction as the company is responsible for completing comprehensive civil and infrastructure construction for our 2,000-acre community. Construction features include road network, WWTP construction, sustainable site improvements throughout, extensive protection of natural amenities and resources and more.
