Kiawah River isn’t just a place name. It’s a secret corner of Johns Island; a lowcountry microcosm. The landscape unfolds from dense, shady groves of old live oak trees to the sun shot marshes of the Kiawah River. I’m deeply inspired by this type of transition and incorporate the same kind of progression into our design work. Homes should enhance the connection to the natural world at Kiawah River through activating the senses at every opportunity.
My favorite Kiawah River moment is arriving at the Farm House from the River Road access drive. A sensitive ensemble among mature landscape at an immediately understood sense of place.
