About Town – Fall in Love with Charleston’s Sea Islands

Each year, Valentine’s Day reminds us that if you know where to look, love can be found just about anywhere, and it doesn’t always have to include chocolates and roses. Charleston’s sea islands offer a variety of sights and activities for those looking for a love-filled getaway that combines discovering nature and stunning waterfront views with serene quality time.

Whether you are a Kiawah River resident looking to plan a staycation or visiting from out of town, the sea islands are the perfect place to rediscover and rekindle. From hiking through nature trails to a romantic candlelit dinner, a Valentine’s Day spent exploring the Lowcountry will not disappoint.

Dinner for Two
Offering a handful of fine dining options away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Charleston, the sea islands give you the choice to enjoy an exquisite meal at local favorites such as The Wild Olive or The Royal Tern on Johns Island, both located just a short drive from Kiawah River. You can also choose to enjoy your meal to-go with a quiet picnic and a bottle of wine on the beach. Dessert is a Valentine’s date necessity, so be sure to stop by Johns Island’s Blackbird Farms and Market and pick up something sweet – we recommend the key lime tart.

Nature Excursions
The sea islands also present a variety of ways to reconnect with both nature and loved ones. Stroll through Kiawah River’s picturesque trails while birdwatching – you may even catch a glimpse of one of our resident bald eagle nests (they mate for life!) or walk through the surf nearby on Kiawah Island’s Beachwalker Park.  If you’re feeling adventurous, book a private kayak tour with Coastal Expeditions and explore the salty marshes and abundance of wildlife throughout Kiawah River. The views are beautiful, and the memories are unforgettable.

From all of us here at Kiawah River, we hope your Valentine’s Day is filled with love and happiness no matter how you choose to celebrate!
