Southern Living Idea House at Kiawah River

The 4,400 square-foot home, which embodies the landscape of the Lowcountry and features outdoor living spaces with picturesque water views, was open to the public for tours from August 9 through December 22.

This was an exceptional opportunity to peruse some of the latest innovations and trends in home design, including the work of many local creatives like Charleston-based Andrea Cayetano-Jefferson of Gullah Sweetgrass Baskets and textile designer Rebecca Atwood. The house references the simple beauty of the farmhouses that have historically informed the architectural vernacular of the Charleston Sea Islands. Views of Abbapoola Creek are enjoyed from nearly every space in the house and outdoor living has been optimized to take full advantage of Kiawah River’s Lowcountry setting.

The Southern Living Idea House program has long served as a source of inspiration, from decor and design ideas to product recommendations. This year’s home featureed new shoppable experiences to allow visitors and readers to seamlessly incorporate a piece of the Lowcountry charm into their own homes.
